It's August, which means it's been MONTHS since I've posted anything! Oh dear-i've been very lazy. better do a catch up on Winter before it's gone. We haven't had any big projects in the garden, just maintenance jobs-weeding, fertilising, pruning. We pulled out the small bed of sweet potato. We didn't really need two beds now the other patch is so large. The small bed had sooooo many potatoes we took three bucket loads in to work to give away. The garden is doing quite well. The roses keep flowering, i've just been having to keep up the black spot spray. The citrus still don't look 100% but there's some new growth and flowers so that's a good sign...hopefully. The lime tree seems to be staying yellow despite what I do, but is flowering and fruiting plenty. The blueberries have been fruiting too-I'm collecting the fruit in the freezer until we have a good amount to do something with. Our mangoes have also started flowering. Our peach tree is loaded with peaches-and it's one random branch of nectarines. I'm just waiting on some netting to come that we ordered so I can cover it and try to protect the fruit from birds and fruit fly-fingers crossed. The passionfruit was going really well-loaded with fruit, and the vines looking healthy and green…then the white cockatoos came. They picked ripe fruit to eat, and bit open the green fruit and and dumped them on the ground, they also shredded the vines so most parts have died off now. I'll have to prune it all back and pull off the dead parts as it doesn't make the nicest view. We did manage to save some of the fruit from the birds, and have a container of pulp stored in the freezer. Despite the vines being munched by some critter we've been getting sugar snap peas-Jeremy really enjoyed picking and eating these with me. Today i'll be planting a box of bulbs Nana sent. We've had a few chilly mornings so perfect for getting out in the sunshine! The bulbs have started shooting in their bags, so should do well. Some of the bulbs planted previous years have been coming up-the freesias, hyacinth and the bluebells. I've yet to get flowers on the bluebells-but the leaves are big this year so just maybe! We've gotten the first of our asparagus spears for this season, and I was happy to see a few new (tiny) asparagus plants have come up. Shows the plants must be spreading. Eventually we'd like the whole big bed to be asparagus. I scrubbed the walls inside about a month ago- to clean up after the three monsters and painted the trims. They came up well-and so far aren't filthy again. I wanted the walls clean so I could redecorate and hang some new pictures. We've done a couple of day trips. Gap Creek Farm-where Shane and a friend went riding, and I wandered around and read by the creek. The birds were very game coming up begging for food, and trying to steal it from my mouth. I had one little grey miner land on my knee while I was reading, and peck at my fingers looking for more bread. We traded in the problematic Navara for a Troopie. So far so good. We took it up Duck Creek Road. It went well apart from being noisy-Shane has since put sound insulation throughout. We'd like to do a longer trip somewhere next year-like the Simpson (in winter of course) so Shane is kitting it out.
