Becca and I went to stay in Montville over the weekend. Bit of a test to see how I’d go with driving. Few interesting moments-packs of cyclists on windy roads, busy intersection and a really steep hill, but not too bad overall. It certainly helps going super early when most people aren’t on the roads ;) We stopped at Kilcoy on the way there to have a little picnic with cupcakes for Becca’s birthday. We had all the ducks in the area joining us. We arrived in Montville before anything was open (as is my way) so wandered around the town to see what was there. On our wandering a lot of the shops looked a bit dodgy from the outside, like they wouldn’t have much to interest us, and would be overpriced. So we were thinking it wouldn’t take us long to look around. We had drinks from the chocolate shop while we waited for things to open, and looked at ideas for other places we could go before check in time. When the shops opened we were very pleasantly surprised. What they showed from the front wasn’t any indication of what was in store. They sold really eclectic things, and a lot was really well priced. There was an art gallery that had really lovely paintings, a timber shop with clever wind ups toys with parts that moved by magnets and lots of giftware stores. There were some nice clothes stores too-I got myself 3 dresses! We ended up being there until about 3:00pm, so didn’t need to fill any time before we could check in. Our hotel was on a street just off the main street-really nice spot with mountain views out back. The room was really big with 2 double beds in separate areas. It wasn't fancy, but was very well set out. Look how they folded the tea towel and dish cloth! We rested there for a bit (shopping always makes me sleepy) and took some hilarious photos of me trying on my dresses. Then we went into town to get dinner. It was only 5pm but there was pretty much only 1 place open-a pizza shop. We’d looked at this earlier and wondered if it’d be any good because we couldn’t smell any nice pizza smells from the place. But again we were pleasantly surprised. We got 2 pizza breads, a garlic one and a pesto one-delicious. We ate it in the park near the parking area behind all the shops-which was much bigger than we’d realised when parking there earlier. We played on the swings for a bit and then decided to leave because there was something that looked like a dog just sitting staring at us-we couldn’t really tell because it was half dark. We are pretty sure it was just a tree stump. The next morning we got up early and went to Kondallilla National Park. It was a nice windy path on the side of the mountain through trees-some of them were HUGE. There were nice views and lots of little birds-most we couldn’t see, but just heard. Unfortunately it was really dry so the water wasn’t running-so we decided to skip the waterfall circuit…the fact this was a really steep path also helped this decision. As it was we still had to climb many, many stairs on the way back-we’re sure there weren’t that many coming down.
We then went back to the hotel to shower and cool off before driving home.
